Working with Parents and Carers Policy

It is the intention of Heavitree Community Pre-school to form a good relationship with all parents and carers, so that developmental, social and health related information about children can be exchanged easily and comfortably by staff and parents.  In order to accomplish this we will:-
  • Assign all children with a key person.
  • Make sure that all staff are available to parents and children regardless of whether they are their key person.
  • Any confidential information provided by a parent about their child will be treated on a strictly need to know basis with other staff members.
  • Making sure that information about a child’s activities is available to parents.  Information about a child will be conveyed verbally and through development books.
  • If there is any concern about a child’s wellbeing during the day every effort will be made to contact the parents or emergency contact.
  • Ask parents to keep us informed of any change to a child’s personal circumstance such as address and contact details.
  • Ask parents to update us on any circumstance at home that may affect a child’s wellbeing such as a bereavement, separation or illness in the family.

We will engage parents and provide them with information about:
  • How the EYFS is being delivered within the setting, and that more information can be accessed through dfs and Devon early years websites.
  • The range and type of activities and experiences we provide for the children.
  • The settings daily routines
  • How parents/carers can share learning at home
  • How we support children with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • The staffing of the setting
  • The name of their child’s key person
  • The food and drink provided for children
  • Policies and procedures
  • Telephone contacts for parents.

This will be provided through at least one of the following forms of communication, Website, letters, posters, flyers, news letters parent questionnaires and suggestion boards.

We ask Parents to provide us with the following information which we will record:-
  • Full name of child
