HEAVITREE COMMUNITY PRE-SCHOOL
 ADMISSIONS POLICY AND PROCEDURES

Heavitree Community pre-school is accessible to all through fair and clear procedures.  It is our intention to make our pre-school accessible to children and families from all sections of the local community.   In order to accomplish this we will:-

  • Ensure that basic information about our pre-school is accessible – in written and spoken form, if applicable we would try to source information in different languages. Where necessary, we will try to provide information in a form that can be understood by all.

  • Operate our waiting list based upon time on the waiting list.

  • Offer Sessions to Children aged from 2 to 5 years old, if spaces are available.

  • Where possible try to keep one place vacant for emergency admissions.

  • Try to ensure that children identified and referred to the group as having a particular need be given priority over strict adherence to the waiting list.  Providing staffing levels allow.

  • Describe our pre-school and its practices in terms which make it clear that it welcomes fathers and mothers, other relations and other carers, including childminders.

  • Describe our pre-school and its practices in terms of how it treats individuals, regardless of their gender, special educational needs, disabilities, background, religion, ethnicity or competence in spoken English.

  • Describe our pre-school and its practices in terms of how it enables children with disabilities to take part in the life of the pre-school.

  • Ensure children are able to attend a settling in session prior to starting regular sessions.

  • Ensure Emergency contact details and consent forms are completed before a child is left in pre-school.

  • We have a wide range of session times to ensure we accommodate a broad range of family need.

  • Continue to consult local parents to ensure that the pre-school is consistently meeting the needs of the local community.

  • Our ratios will be adhered to at all times taking into consideration the number of 2/3 year olds.

  • Where there are occasions of full capacity children’s hours maybe limited to the 15 funded hours.

  • Children attending Heavitree Community Preschool for 30 hours per week will be limited to a maximum of 8 places per session when at full capacity.
